The current map is very incomplete due to past lumping with Cyperus retrofractus. Extensive herbarium work will be required to map these species separately.
Habitat
Dry, open forests, woodlands, and clearings; often in sandy soil. Distribution and status are incompletely known (see Comments). The species is tentatively assessed as infrequent but widely distributed in the Coastal Plain and Piedmont.
