This rather coarse member of the Dichanthelium commutatum complex has usually been placed in synonymy under that species. It recently received a published name in Dichanthelium (Wipff, J.K. 2020. New combinations in Dichanthelium (Poaceae). Phytologia 102:172–176). Aside from its stiff, robust aspect, the plant usually has a bluish cast to the foliage that is distinctive. It is known from southeastern Virginia to the Gulf Coast.
Habitat
Pine barrens, maritime dune woodlands, and dry, sandy forests of the southeastern Coastal Plain. Local, but may be frequent in favorable habitats.
