- Depression swamps and ponds, alluvial swamps, wet flatwoods, and maritime swamps; usually in seasonally flooded basins or sloughs that draw down during the growing season; occurs in both acidic and more base-rich wetland soils. Frequent to locally common in the s. and c. Coastal Plain; rare and local in upland depression swamps of the Piedmont.
