- Comments
- The current map is likely incomplete because this species and Carex hirsutella were lumped under the name C. complanata in many older Virginia studies. However, recent field and herbarium studies have largely sorted out their in-state distributions. Of the two species, Carex complanata is more characteristic of damp habitats in the Coastal Plain and outer Piedmont while C. hirsutella is most characteristic of drier upland habitats in the mountains and Piedmont
- Habitat
- Bottomland forests, alluvial swamp hummocks, depression swamps and ponds, wet flatwoods, tidal swamps, damp to wet clearings, and low, mesic upland forests. This species has been lumped with Carex hirsutella in many Virginia studies, and its distribution is incompletely known. However, confirmed records make clear it is frequent to common in the Coastal Plain and outer Piedmont, becoming rare westward.
