- Ponds, ditches, muddy pools, tidal freshwater shores, interdune swales, bogs, and boggy clearings; often weedy and in disturbed habitats. Common in the s. and c. Coastal Plain, rare in the s. outer Piedmont, and disjunct to Augusta County in the mountains.
