- See Comments under Platanthera grandiflora for a phenological comparison with that species. Additionally, there appear to be significant phenological differences between populations of Platanthera psycodes in the higher elevations of southwest Virginia and those in the northern part of the mountains. The former flower in June and often occur in mesophytic forests, as well as seeps. The latter flower in late July - early August and tend to be mostly, if not entirely, associated with seepage. It is not known whether any morphological differences are correlated with these phenologically separated populations.
- Habitat
- Acidic or rich cove forests, mesic high-elevation forests, seepage swamps, seeps, and wet meadows. Widespread but infrequent in the mountains.
