- Comments
- See Novon 12:299-308 (2002) for discussion of transfer from Zigadenus. As currently interpreted, this speccies has a peculiar and disjunct range, occurring on the Coastal Plain of se. New York (Long Island), New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland, in the mountains from West Virginia and Virginia south through w. North Carolina to (reportedly) Alabama, and on the Gulf Coastal Plain from s. Georgia to Louisiana. Unpublished studies involving (primarily) Gulf Coast populations of Stenanthium leimanthoides have questioned its distinctness from S. densum, but Virginia plants seem readily separable.
- Habitat
- Dry woodlands and fen ecotones over mafic and ultramafic rocks. Rare, s. Blue Ridge Mountains; known only from a small area of Grayson County known as the Glades.
- Native Status
- Native
