- This taxon has been variously treated as a species (Anticlea glauca), or ssp. or var. of Anticlea elegans (formerly Zigadenus elegans). While Flora of the Southeastern U.S. and Flora of Virginia treat it as a species, FNA (Vol. 26) chose not to even recognize two subspecific taxa within Zigadenus elegans because of considerable intergradation in the middle of the geographic range. While the appropriate treatment seems unresolved, we follow species recognition for consistency with Flora of Virginia.
- Habitat
- Dry woodlands, barrens, cliffs, and outcrops, often associated with Thuja occidentalis; occurs on limestone and dolostone in the c. and s. Ridge and Valley and Cumberland Mountains, and on metabasalt on the Northern Blue Ridge (Page and Rappahannock cos.). Infrequent and local in the mountains.
