- Comments
- The white petals with an inverted red V near the base are very distinct. Some plants on Elliott Knob, in Augusta County, are notable for their unmarked white petals.
Molecular evidence strongly supports the separation of Trillidium from Trillium. See Floden and Schilling (2018, J. Bot. Res. Inst. Texas 12). - Habitat
- Acidic cove forests, montane oak forests, northern hardwood forests, spruce-fir forests, seepage swamps, and bogs, generally at middle to high elevations; associated with more acidic, infertile soils than are other Virginia trilliums. Frequent in the c. and sw. mountains, but apparently rare on the Blue Ridge north of Floyd County.
