- Comments
- Map is a placeholder pending the extensive herbarium work needed to separate this species and ssp. of Cyperus lupulinus. As used here, the name Cyperus filiculmis applies to plants of the southeastern US that range from DE and MD to TX, primarily on the Coastal Plain. However, this species and the two vars. of Cyperus lupulinus have been lumped in most Virginia floristic studies, and the names Cyperus filiculmis and C. lupulinus have been applied interchangeably to many herbarium specimens. Until a comprehensive study of Virginia herbarium material is undertaken, the relatively distributions and frequencies of the three taxa in the state will remain uncertain.
- Habitat
- Dry, sandy woodlands, clearings, fields, and roadsides. This species has generally been lumped with Cyperus lupulinus in Virginia studies, and its distribution and status are incompletely known; it is apparently frequent or locally common in the Coastal Plain, particularly south of the James River, possibly extending into parts of the Piedmont.
