- Recently found by Bill McAvoy on mud flats around two ponds at Saltville, Smyth County, adding to the list of disjunct Coastal halophytes found in the saline wetlands of this southwest Virginia site.
- Habitat
- Mesohaline to polyhaline (occasionally oligohaline) tidal marshes, salt scrub, and salt flats of the Coastal Plain; occasionally in brackish interdune swales; disjunct to extraordinarily rare inland salt marshes developed in seasonally flooded basins over Mississipian-age salt deposits at Saltville, Smyth County. Frequent to common in the maritime and lower estuarine zones of the Coastal Plain, rare in the sw. mountains.
