- Note that recent phylogenetic work by Vorontsova et al. (Syst. and Biodiv. 21(1), 2023) and Weakley et al. (J. Bot. Res. Inst. Texas 18(1), 2024) has transferred most study-area Andropogon spp. to the genus Anatherum. The map may include a few records for Anatherum hirsutius and A. tenuispatheum in se. Virginia. Nevetheless, A. glomeratus is by far the most common member of this complex in Virginia and is distributed over the mapped range.
- Habitat
- Bogs, clearings, mafic fens and seeps, pocosins, sea-level fens, depression ponds, interdune swales and ponds, damp to wet clearings and roadsides. Common in the Coastal Plain; infrequent in the Piedmont and mountains.
