- Habitat
- Rich soils of well-drained floodplain forests and mesic slope forests at low elevations. Infrequent to rare in the mountains and Piedmont but often abundant where found. Locally common along the Clinch and other rivers in sw. Virginia, and along the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers in n. Virginia; it is currently known from a single site on the James River, and a single site on the New River.
