- The first Piedmont record in Virginia for this species, on a steep, sheltered bluff along the James River in Buckingham County, was discovered in 2019 by Larry Lynch.
- Habitat
- Cove forests, other mesic to dry-mesic montane forests; most characteristic of, but not restricted to, base-rich soils. Frequent to common in the mountains, north to Albemarle and Rockingham counties; very rare (one site) in the Piedmont.
