- Sorrie (2022, J. Bot. Res. Inst. Texas 16(2): 377-418) clearly established that Fernald's Aster umbellatus var. brevisquamus is not conspecific with D. sericocarpoides, and that bona fide material of the latter does not occur north of south-central North Carolina. Doellingeria umbellata var. pubens (A. Gray) Britt. occurs in moist habitats of the upper Midwest.
