- Comments
- The map is a composite that represents records for Gamochaeta purpurea and related species such as G. argyrinea. However, it is no doubt representative of the distribution of G. purpurea, which is widespread at lower elevations in Virginia.
- Habitat
- Open forests, woodlands, thin soils around outcrops, clearings, fields, roadsides, lawns, and other open, weedy habitats. The specific habitats, distribution, and status of this taxon are incompletely known because it has been included in a broader species concept (Gnaphalium purpureum L.; see synonymy) in most Virginia studies. Collectively, the members of this complex are frequent to common at low elevations statewide, but extensive herbarium and field studies are needed to clarify the status of each component species. However, Gamochaeta purpurea is certainly one of the most widespread species of the genus in Virginia.
