- Our plants represent var. concolor if var. var. devestitum (S.F.Blake) Semple of the Florida Panhandle is recognized. The two vary in vestiture of the phyllaries and upper stem leaves.
- Habitat
- Dry woodlands, clearings, and road banks. Frequent in the inner Coastal Plain and Piedmont south of the James River; infrequent elsewhere in these provinces; rare in the mountains.
