- Comments
- This species is similar to S. laeve and has often been treated as a variety of it. Symphyotrichum concinnum can generally be distinguished from S. laeve by its long, wand-like inflorescence branches and its narrower leaves that are barely or not clasping. Plants of the Piedmont, usually occurring in the absence of S. laeve, are very distinctive morphologically. However, on the northern Blue Ridge, where the two species are sympatric, plants can sometimes exhibit "intermediate" morphologies and be difficult to assign.
- Habitat
- Dry, open forests, woodlands, barrens, and clearings, most commonly over mafic rocks, occasionally over calcareous sedimentary rocks. Infrequent and scattered in the mountains and Piedmont.
- Native Status
- Native
