- The report of C. aestivalis from Princess Anne Co., based on Fernald & Long's #10,671 reported in Rhodora 47:151 (1945) as C. aestivalis, has been found to be a spatulate-leaved form of C. crus-galli (R. Lance, pers. comm.). Crataegus aestivalis is believed to range only as far north as c. eastern North Carolina.
- Habitat
- Old fields, thickets, woodland edges, shrubby clearings and, in the mountains especially, abandoned pastures. Frequent to common in the mountains, infrequent eastward.
