- Common apple; widely persistent from old plantings and more or less naturalized, especially in the upper Piedmont and mountains. This species has been traditionally named Malus pumila. However, a recent proposal to conserve the name Malus domestica against M. pumila and several other names was approved at the Shenzhen Botanical Congress held in Jul 2017.
- Habitat
- Commonly cultivated, long-persistent, and more or less naturalized in successional forests, old fields, borders, and fencerows. Frequent in the mountains; infrequent elsewhere.
