- Comments
- This species is apparently not widely introduced in the continental US; known only from Albama, Louisiana, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, South Carolina, and Virginia (Kartesz, J.T., 2015, BONAP Plant Atlas and 2025 Flora of the Southeastern U.S.).
- Habitat
- Frequently flood-scoured sandy or silty riverbanks, bars, and alluvial fields along the James River. Frequent, well established, and apparently increasing in the river's reach through seven central Piedmont counties, where found repeatedly over a period of 25+ years. It should be sought in similar habitats along the James in other counties. Also recently collected in muddy depressions along an old road at the top of a bluff along the tidal Rappahannock River in Essex County, suggesting that the species may be spreading to areas far removed from its central Virginia concentration.
