- Comments
- Black Locust is generally considered native to the Appalachian region. Owing to the eastward extension of montane-like habitats and Appalachian flora in the Piedmont, it is not now possible to map putative native and introduced populations separately.
- Habitat
- Mesic to dry secondary forests, old fields, fencerows, and around old homesites. Common in the mountains and inner Piedmont, where definitely native; less so in the outer Piedmont and Coastal Plain, where no doubt partly or entirely naturalized through postsettlement spread.
- Native Status
- Native
