- In muddy or silty, seasonally exposed soils of streamside bars and river shores, natural depression ponds, artificial impoundments and reservoirs, ditches, beaver ponds, and other seasonally flooded wetlands. Locally frequent in the Coastal Plain and Piedmont; infrequent to rare in the mountains.
