- Subspecies idaeus, the cultivated red raspberry (not to be confused with wineberry, Rubus phoenicolasius) is often planted but either does not escape in our area or is not represented in herbaria.
- Habitat
- Rocky, high-elevation forests, boulder fields, outcrops, clearings, and old fields; rarely at the edges of high-elevation beaver wetlands. Rare, mountains, but sometimes abundant where found; restricted to a small area of the c. Ridge and Valley and Northern Blue Ridge from Bath County on the sw. to Madison and Page counties on the ne.
