- A narrow, Southern Appalachian endemic reaching its northern limits in the Balsam Mountains of southwest Virginia.
- Habitat
- Mesic cove forests, rich northern hardwood forests, and seeps, primarily at high elevations. Restricted to and infrequent in a small area of the Southern Blue Ridge in and around the Balsam Mountains (Grayson, Smyth, and Washington counties).
