- Scarce, with most of our records being 70-100 or more years old. Mostly a species of the low to intermediate elevations in the Piedmont and Mountain regions.
- Habitat
- Pastures, shrubby old fields, roadside thickets, open upland forests, and flatwoods, rarely above 900 m (2000 ft) elevation. Infrequent in the mountains and Piedmont at low to intermediate elevations.
