- A Roanoke record was previously reported as Plagiochila praemorsa Steph (= P. fragilifolia Pearson), a tropical species. However, the voucher specimens were annotated as Plagiochila yokogurensis Steph. ssp. fragilifolia R.M. Schuster, a synonym of Plagiochila appalachiana. Schuster had been using the herbarium name Plagiochila fragilifolia R.M. Schuster , allowing for confusion with the previous use and concept of the same name by Pearson.
