Comments
Schuster & Patterson (1957) note the taxonomy of this complex needs further study. The Suffolk plants are described as "...not wholly similar to the northern [C.] macrostachya, which grows exclusively in bogs. However, it can not be placed in the more common and allied C. catenulata because of the very large cells of the stems and leaves." The morphological details of the Accomack specimen are not known.
New molecular work places this species in the genus Fuscocephaloziopsis (http://www.mapress.com/phytotaxa/content/2013/f/pt00112p015.pdf)
Habitat
In moist soil in ditch with Nardia lescurii (Suffolk). On wet log (Assateague Island, Accomack)
Native Status
Native
