- Stotler and Crandall-Stotler (2005) report that Phaeoceros laevis does not occur north of Mexico in the Americas. The records previously mapped in Botetourt, Chesterfield, Dickenson, Giles, Goochland, Henrico, Louisa, Madison, Montgomery, Nelson, Northampton, Southampton, Sussex & Tazewell counties have been reassigned to P. carolinianus. The species account remains to redirect users to this little-known information.
