- Usually considered a calciphile but the Flora of North America describes the microhabitats as "Base of trees, roots, rotten logs, shaded boulders, shady banks, limestone cliffs, soil". The specimen collected in Shenandoah National Park was on the Page/Warren County line. It is mapped in Page County here as a placeholder.
- Habitat
- The only known Virginia collections are from sandstone outcrops near the Cascades of Little Stony Creek, near Mountain Lake, Giles County and from Overall Run Falls, Shenandoah National Park (Biodiversity occurrence data published by COLO, DUKE, NY.
