Comments
Note that recent phylogenetic work by Vorontsova et al. (Syst. and Biodiv. 21(1), 2023) and Weakley et al. (J. Bot. Res. Inst. Texas 18(1), 2024) has transferred most study-area Andropogon spp. to the genus Anatherum. This taxon is no doubt incompletely mapped at this time due to lack of previous recognition and lumping with Anatherum gyrans.
Habitat
Bogs, wet flatwoods, depression swamps and ponds, sea-level fens, and moist or boggy clearings (especially power-line rights-of-way) in the Coastal Plain; alternately wet and dry hardpan forests and clearings in the Piedmont. Status incompletely known; apparently infrequent in the s. and c. Coastal Plain but locally abundant in some places; rare in the Piedmont.
Native Status
Native
