- Apparently rare, mapped in FNA from widely disparate locations across the U.S. First collected in 1989 in Alleghany County but its identity did not become known until 2022! During the interim years, it was discovered on a Bath County shale barren in 2013. Additional occurrences were found in Alleghany County in following years and in Botetourt in 2022. This species probably occurs more widely and should be sought in shale barren habitats throughout the Virginia-West Virginia region.
