Comments
Note that recent phylogenetic work by Vorontsova et al. (Syst. and Biodiv. 21(1), 2023) and Weakley et al. (J. Bot. Res. Inst. Texas 18(1), 2024) has transferred most study-area Andropogon spp. to the genus Anatherum. An uncommon or localized, problematic taxon with us. Traditionally treated as a var. of Andropogon glomeratus, or lumped with it entirely; see Weakley et al. in J. Bot. Res. Inst. Texas 5: 437-455, 2011 for a detailed discussion of taxonomic issues in this and related species.
Habitat
Wet flatwoods and clearings, ditches, and other wet disturbed sites. Distribution and status in Virginia are poorly known; apparently limited to the s. and c. Coastal Plain.
Native Status
Native
