See: The Bryologist 112(2):273-277 (2009) - Schistidium viride (Grimmiaceae), a new name for a common but neglected species in eastern North America. This is our common species on limestone substrates throughout the Ridge and Valley Province, probably in every county in that region.
Collections from eastern Virginia come from manmade substrates, presumably due to their limy mortar or limestone gravel content. - Habitat
- Especially associated with calcareous rocks in open as well as shaded situations. Manmade structures include rock walls, steps, bridge abutments, etc.
