- Soreng and Simmons reported the first records (MD, VA, NC) of Poa iconia var. iconia from North America in Castanea 83: 270-271 (2018). Native to the Mediterranean region, this taxon is similar to Poa bulbosa L., and has often been lumped with it in the past. However, Soreng's studies of the P. bulbosa complex in Europe have found that P. iconia is genetically isolated from P. bulbosa and differs in a number of morphological characters.
