- A recently described species (Gaddy, L.L. 2011. Phytoneuron 47: 1-5.). Collected in 2023 by J. Thompson from a frequently burned area at Fort Walker. Pickled flowers and pressed leaves along with photographs were sent to Gaddy who verified the identification. This species was formerly considered an endemic to the sandhills region of North Carolina and Southern Carolina. It and numerous other sandhills-adapted plants occur in the well-preserved and regularly burned deep sandy habitats at the fort.
