- Plants from Grayson County, originally identified as Viola walteri, have been recently redetermined by Harvey Ballard as Viola appalachiensis. This species has a fairly narrow and scattered Appalachian distribution from n. Pennsylvania to sw. North Carolina. It is often associated with seepage on mafic or ultramafic rocks and serpentine barrens, which is consistent with the habitats the The Glades region of Grayson County.
