- Comments
- Much nomenclatural confusion surrounds this plant. FNA does not mention C. serrulatus at all and lists C. torquescens as a synonym Cynodontium tenellum. The Bryophyte Nomenclator, however, recognizes both serrulatus and tenellum and lists torquescens as a synonym of serrulatus. In any case, whatever the name, apparently, its US distribution is poorly known, but at present it is considered a northern species (Canada and the northern tier of states). The species is unlikely to occur in Virginia, and the five or so Virginia specimens need critical re-examination.
