- Comments
- Described as new in Phytotaxa 765 (2), 2026. This species is most similar to Phlox ovata and P. pulchra, but has often been referred to under the misapplied name Phlox glaberrima var. triflora. It features sterile stems produced alongside flowering stems as in ovata and pulchra, but differs in the disposition of these shoots, asexual reproduction, leaf shape, and stem pubescence.
- Habitat
- Rangewide, described as "mesic woodland, glade edges, roadsides, and stream floodplains". Herbarium label data from the few Virginia collections mentions open pine woods and a damp roadside.
