- Comments
- The treatment here follows a recent transfer of this species and another Asian one to the genus Parogonum. According to Flora of the Southeastern U.S., "the two species of Parogonum (e. Asian and e. North American) have usually been considered to be congeneric with the species of Fallopia; Desjardins et al. (2023, PhytoKeys 220: 83-108) found that Parogonum is sister to Fallopia + Muehlenbeckia, and elevated section Parogonum Haraldson to genus rank to maintain a taxonomy of monophyletic genera." It should be noted, however, that support for the cladogram branch separating out sect. Paragonum is quite weak (55% bootstrap support).
- Habitat
- Open forests, clearings, and rock outcrops at middle to high elevations. Infrequent in the mountains.

- Native
