- According to Flora of the Southeastern U.S., Froelichia gracilis is native to the Midwestern United States and introduced eastward. Froelichia floridana (Nutt.) Moq.-Tand. var. floridana been erroneously attributed to Virginia. Though its occurrence here is not implausible, no voucher specimen is currently known to exist.

- Sandy fields, roadsides, clearings, railroad cinders, and waste dumps. Infrequent throughout.
