- A new southernmost native occurrence was found in 2008 along the New River in Wythe County; also indigenous in Craig County and along the Potomac River west of Washington, D.C. Commonly cultivated, however, and may be persisting or spreading from plantings elsewhere.
- Habitat
- Rich alluvial forests. Rare, mountains and Piedmont; known from Meadow Creek in Craig County, the New River in Wythe County, and the Potomac River in Fairfax and Arlington counties.
