- Calcareous fens, wet meadows, depression swamps, and floodplain pools and sloughs; rarely in wet flatwoods of the Coastal Plain; usually in base-rich soils. Infrequent in the mountains and n. Piedmont; rare elsewhere in the Piedmont and the inner Coastal Plain.
