 - Evidence strongly suggests this species is of hybrid origin involving B. fluviatilis and B. robustus, see Brittonia 47:433-445 (1995).
 - Habitat
 - Freshwater to oligohaline tidal marshes. Generally infrequent and local in the n. and c. Coastal Plain, but locally abundant at some sites; known from intertidal zones on the Potomac, Pamunkey, Appomattox, and James rivers and their major tributaries.
