- Moist clearings, roadsides, open woodlands, meadows, bogs, mafic fens, and high-elevation outcrops with periodic seepage. Frequent across the southern half of Virginia, except in the outer Coastal Plain; infrequent, with many distributional gaps, in the northern half of the state.
