- This species is similar to Trillium erectum and appears to largely replace it in limestone/dolostone districts of southwestern Virginia. Both red- and white-flowered forms are fairly common in this region.
- Habitat
- Primarily in rich cove and mesic slope forests with calcareous soils. Frequent to locally common in the sw. mountains; rare in the far sw. Piedmont.
