- FNA lumps this species in a broad concept of Juncus marginatus Rostk. However, Knapp and Naczi (2008, Syst. Bot. 33(4): 685–694) found them distinct in morphometric analysis, although each exhibited fairly wide morphological variability.
- Habitat
- Various open, moist to seasonally flooded habitats, including interdune swales, freshwater and oligohaline tidal marshes, wet meadows, low fields, and ditches. Frequent in the Coastal Plain and Piedmont; infrequent to rare in the mountains.
