- See also C. superata. Carex basiantha Steudel, another seggregate of the C. willdenowii complex, has not yet been found in Virginia but should be looked for, especially in the SE Coastal Plain and lower Piedmont.
- Habitat
- Mesic to dry upland forests; most numerous in dry-mesic mixed-oak and oak-hickory forests. Frequent in the mountains (at low elevations) and Piedmont; infrequent in the n. Coastal Plain.
