- This species has recently disappeared from many of its former habitats, in all cases coincidental with increased light, forest-floor littler, shrubs, and herbaceous ground cover following extensive hemlock mortality from woolly adelgid outbreaks.
- Habitat
- Acidic cove forests and hemlock forests, often rooted in moss; also recently found in a white pine plantation. Rare in the mountains.
