- This is by far the most common and widespread var. of Cyperus odoratus in Virginia. See also var. engelmannii and var. squarrosus, which are mapped separately but each known from just one or two sites in the state.
- Habitat
- Alluvial and tidal swamps, freshwater and oligohaline tidal marshes, seasonally exposed river shores and bars, interdune swales and ponds, depression ponds, impoundments, ditches, wet fields, and other open, seasonally moist to wet, disturbed habitats. Frequent to locally common in the Coastal Plain and outer Piedmont; infrequent in the inner Piedmont and mountains.
